Image
By Paul Chaderjian May 25, 2002 Yerevan, Armenia - Unprecedented, unexpected and unbelievable were a few of the words used to describe last weekend's Nune Yesayan musical stage production called "NY for NY - Armenia for America." Locals and tourists alike were amazed at the caliber and high quality of the show that involved more than five hundred actors, dancers, musicians, singers and crew members. The overwhelming enormity of the Broadway-like musical and the talent showcased in this grand stage production left the six thousand who attended the show in disbelief. Many, including the Republic's first foreign Minister Raffi Hovanissian, were surprised that the local art community could envision and effortlessly execute such a grand, professional and entertaining theatrical production. Hovanissian reacted by simply saying it was "unprecedented." "The production we created was like a living movie for us," said Hrand Vardanyan, the director of the sho...

by Paul Chaderjian March 12, 2002 (Yerevan) - Thousands of miles away from the horror of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Republic of Armenia's most popular entertainer, singer Nune Yesayan, is planning two unity concerts in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 26 and May 27th. The concerts will honor the memory of those who lost their lives September 11th and will rally Armenians for their support of those who are grieving for their loved ones. "I watched the events unfold in horror," says the 32-year-old singer. "All I could think of was how those innocent victims were never going to be able to share what was in their hearts. Sons, daughters, wives, husbands, friends, lovers, they didn't know that the last time they saw one another would be their last; and if they only could have had the chance to say goodbye." The terrorist attacks and the thousands of lives cut short in an instant reminded Yesayan of the 1989 earthquake in Armenia, when more than 50,000 Ar...

The World Wide Web of Nune

Image
The World Wide Web of Nune March 6, 2001 By Paul Chaderjian (Anywhere, March 2001) -- While most artists talk-the-talk, they don't necessarily walk-the-walk. They plan, plot, prepare, promise and dream but fail to materialize their object d’art. That's not the case with one of the hardest working Armenian performers in the world, Nune Yesayan. Her world wide web is now so vast and her music so popular, that the singer sometimes wonders how she keeps up. That’s the theme of one of Nune’s new songs. In her new CD ‘Love’ Nune sings about her meteoric career with infinite jest. She raps about her endless jaunts across the oceans and around the globe, her concerts in halls, arenas and auditoriums, interviews with multilingual journalists and reporters and meeting with officials, civilians and clergy. All that, she sings, leaves her no time to find her true love. 'Tu eents, yess kez' is one of the many original songs on Nune's latest album. Due out this month, Nune's...
