Armenian Recording Star on Channel 18 in Fresno

Fresno – Popular Armenian recording star Nune Yesayan will make her return to Fresno television this Sunday, August 25th at 8:00pm on KVPT TV 18, Central California's PBS affiliate (Cable 8).


The KVPT "Nune Special" will feature the performer's two most recent music videos and performances from her recent concert in Armenia called "NY for NY" (Nune Yesayan for New York). The solidarity concert in May was dedicated to the victims of the September 11th terror attacks against the US.


"I wanted to send a message to New York that we Armenians know what it's like to lose thousands of our loved ones," said Nune.


Believing in the message of the "NY for NY" concert, nearly 6,000 Armenians from Yerevan and the Armenian Diaspora attended the May concerts at the Hamalir Stadium in Yerevan.


"Armenians have suffered similar pains, different in nature, of course, but that's why we can relate much easier to the Armenian people," said Armenia's Foreign Minster Vardan Oskanian, "and that's what exactly happened after September 11."


"I think there's a tremendous connection between Armenia and the US and Armenians and Americans," said U.S. Ambassador John Ordway, who was also surprised by the quality of the production.


"The events of September 11th have had a major heartfelt impact on Armenia. And Nune herself is symbolic of the connection between the US and Armenia. She does concerts in the US, and she does concerts here, and she brings together traditional Armenian melodies and folk themes that are very modern."


"We asked Channel 18 to broadcast the Nune program," said Rosie Bedrosian, "so that we could share Nune's concert and her talent with local fans and those interested in the Armenian culture."


Bedrosian is the principal of the Armenian Community School in Fresno, and Nune will be performing a fundraiser for the school at the Tower Theater on Sunday, September 15th.


"We know from two years ago when Nune was in Fresno," said Bedrosian, "that when people see Nune on television, we create a lot of enthusiasm for our benefit concert."


Nune's Special on Channel 18 will be broadcast on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Viewers will see the singer who combines the old and new, the East and West and traditional folks songs with contemporary sounds.
